It was a nice spring day, sunny shinning bright across the land.  Rolling green hills and waves of golden, red, and blue flowers blanketed the field as far as the eye can see. Bounding across was a strapping young male, his grey fur and bright orange hues were testament of his youth and health as he moved with such power and grace. The wolf’s name was Raigho, no longer a yearling he was forced form his pack, like most young adults, to carve out a living in this land of green. He then stopped for a moment and looked back, unsure of his capabilities. His old friends and family had faith in him, but he himself reserved that for them and them alone. He often questioned his own abilities, especially in the role of leadership because often times he was content with following given commands. It was hard to leave the comfort of home, but he had to. It was all apart of growing up, whether he was ready for it or not. With a sigh he moved on, cantering to the tree line, entering the much more lush woods.

“Can I really do this? I mean this whole pack thing?” He asked himself and he kicked up the moist dirt with his paws. He began to feel a heavy weight on his heart, doubt once again setting in. He thought back to the security of home, but remembers the faces and words of his former pack. “What am I saying? I can do this! It’s time to be a wolf; I’m not a pup anymore! Ok Raigho, full speed a--” cutting him off was his stomach growling. His head dropped limply, nose pointing to the ground in self embarrassment. “ok… maybe after I find something to eat.” Raigho began to sniff the air, trying to scent anything that may have passed by. Nothing. Wait! He sniffed again he took in a long drag in. Water? He licked his lips, for he was quite thirsty too, but where there is water there is life. A drink and a possible meal, two for one deal, he smirked at his cleverness. He gave a small chuckled and then he was off again.

Trotting a long, he followed the scent of crisp, clear water. Occasionally he stopped to smell the ground and trail up the trees, looking for scents of any kind. It was a safety measure, not only for food, but for other predators that might bee in the area. Competition in the world of beasts was never far off, as vast as the world seemed, it was much smaller and less convenient than any creature would like. As he drew nearer to the body of water, he picked up a new scent. It was discrete, hours of time must of passed since this creature moved by but he could still try to identify it. He reputedly took in the scent, and still came up with nothing, but was determined to figure the scent out. He furrowed his brows and tried again, smelling and dragging n long breaths. Soon he found himself with his face shoved into the dirt. When he snapped out of his fragrant obsession, he stepped back and sneezed in realization.

“It’s a wolf?”

Raigho then stuck his nose back to the ground and followed the trail on, noticing the sound of rushing water starting to flood his ears. Though he should have, he refused to look up, determined to follow the scent to the end; little did he know that it would be so close.

—THUD—

“oof!”

“ow!”

Raigho lifted his head quickly finding himself face to face with an angry female. Her bright golden eyes gleamed in upset over the rude encounter. In shock, Raigho’s ears folded back, his tail coming close to curling under him as the female began to bark at his carelessness.

“You idiot! I was just about to catch a fish when you-! Ugh! Stupid males! They never fail to get in my way. I otta rip you a new one you stupid, idiotic, clumsy, no-good, blah, blah-”

With each step, the female was forcing Raigho backward till his rump was against a tree. So overwhelmed he no longer was hear what she was saying, but began to check her out, even though he was practically on his tip toes, half sitting against the tree as if her words had a bite to them. She was a black female with a smoky underbelly, around the same age as he. Her fur was tuck and glimmered with a healthy shine, and though her eyes were yellow, they burned like fire with seething passion to her purpose. Even though she was yelling at him, he couldn’t help but start to find her amazingly cute and adorably amusing. His posture began to relax and the female stepped back as she found the male now staring at her almost languidly.

“Stop looking at me like that you brute!?”

“why not, you are so cute, and you smell soooooo nice.”

He sniffed the air to indicate that how much he enjoyed her feminine fragrance. It was almost intoxicating to him, so sweet, so comforting.

“WHAT!? Who do you think you are!?

Raigho began to advance forward, sending the female slowly stepping back as he took back ground. Slowly she began to soften her expression as he took the position of dominance back. She even began to blush which he found even more attractive.

“I’m Raigho, who are you?”

“Um… I’m Jera… Will you knock it off! You’re creeping me out!”

She defensively pawed him in the face to break his trance. The grey male closed his eyes as she momentarily forced his nose down. It was affective for the most part, but not completely. Raigho stopped advancing physically, but he was still in pursuit of this domineering female. Even though she was so aggressive he found her quite charming. He wondered if it was odd, but mentally waved it off as he opened his eyes to look up at her his ears back as if avoiding another blow to the head.

“Ow! Sorry, I couldn’t help it! You just are so-”

“Stop it! Not another word! Since we have gotten through introductions I’d like to eat now, but in order to do that I have to catch a fish. Now if you would kindly BACK OFF for a moment, I am going to go back to my fishing.”

Jera began to walk back to the stream, her cute tail high in the air. Raigho couldn’t help but feel bad that he cost the beautiful, charcoal female her meal, so he decided he wanted to make it up to her. He started after her and bounded next to her, meeting shoulder to shoulder.

“Wait! Let me make it up to you. You can sit back and relax and I’ll fish for you.”

Jera stopped in her tracks and gave a small laugh. Wolves were not skillful like the wild cats, native to the surrounding areas, or the bears who were also seasoned hunters. She spent hours observing them because quarry with legs were sometimes difficult to catch. Not admitting it aloud, Jera wasn’t the fastest of runners. She was on stocky side, and kind of short, possessing more stamina than speed. The female turned her head to face Raigho a half smirk crossing her delicate maw. Did he think her a fool?

“Ok, sure, but can you? Fishing isn’t easy.”

Raigho shrugged. Yeah, he had never really fished before, but he was dying to impress Jera, whether he did it successfully or not. If he sorely failed, he hoped she’d take pity on him, and find him charming anyway.

“Then show me” he offered, always willing to give anything a try, especially if it’s for a pretty girl. Jera rolled her eyes cocking a hip as if finding him a little too eager to please. She then shook her head, unbelieving at his naive attempts to woo her; it was slightly pathetic, but found him a bit goofy and slightly entertaining. Maybe this wouldn’t be a waste of time after all.

“Ugh… fine, but you better not screw this up…”

“It won’t I promise”

Jera positioned herself on a log overlooking the water. She crouched on it so low that she was practically laying on it, her belly against the mossy bark. “you have to get down close, like a cat. Unlike us, they have flexible wrists and hooked claws, so for them this is much easier.” She looked trough the rippling flows for her pray, continuing to instruct as he watched from the bank. “And when you find your pray” she said as she shifted parallel to the shore, “you must change your position so that you may smack your pray out of the water and onto the bank *SMACK* like so!” A fish flopped at Raigho’s feet and was quite impressed by Jera’s fishing display. He looked up at the black female as she stood and made her way back off the fallen log.

“You’re really good!” Raigho smiled. Jera smirked, kind of liking the appreciation she was getting. She put a paw on the wriggling fish so it wouldn’t escape, with a flash of one of her golden hues she tried to indulge him a bit.

“Yeah, it’s not easy. There is another way, but it takes much longer. You also get really wet, which I prefer not to do if I don’t need to.”

“so what is they other way?”

“Standing in the middle of the water the shoving your face in attempt to catch it or even pouncing on it causing a bigger splash. Too much energy and wetness, it is also less successful in catching prey.”

Raigho thought for a moment. “Hmm I see” he said looking out to the water. Jera then quickly gobbled down her fish then looked to Raigho in interest.

“ready to fish?”

“Bring it on!”
